Employee Disconnect expected to reach
crisis level in 2010

Employee turnover is expected to rise this year, as a survey shows many workers are unhappy with their present jobs.  According to an article in SI Review, 60% of employees surveyed intend to leave their current employer in 2010 and an additional 1 in 4 are networking and updating their resumes.  The article was based on a study done by Right Management, which provides a barometer of employee engagement in the workplace.  Many employees felt neglected during the recent economic downturn, creating a workforce that is disengaged and disgruntled.  Undoubtedly, many employers are going to be surprised and alarmed by these results.

To avoid having massive staff turnover, it is important to recognize the toll the recent economic hardships have taken on their staff’s.  Now is an excellent time to reinforce to your workers how valuable they are to the ongoing success of your firm, and to thank them for weathering the tough times with you.

To show an employee how much you appreciate them does not require extravagant parties or costly gifts.  Many times, the best way to demonstrate to employees how much you appreciate them, is to spend one on one time with each staff member and sincerely communicating with them how valuable they are to your company.  Showing them that you care about them as people, and valuing the contribution they make to your organization, is often enough.
